1998 year, March
At the Executive Committee of the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) G.A. Rakhimov was elected Member of the Executive Committee of the Amateur International Boxing Association and Chairman of the AIBA Business Commission.

1999 year, April
At the General Assembly of the Asian Olympic Council (AOC) G.Rakhimov was elected Vice-President of the Asian Olympic Council from Central Asian region and Chairman of the Central Asian Area of the AOC.

2001 year, February
At the IÕ Current Selection General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Uzbekistan G.A. Rakhimov was elected Vice-President of the NOC.

2002 year, November
At the XV Congress of the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) in Cairo (Egypt) G. Rakhimov was elected Vice-President of the AIBA.

2003 year, January
On January 24 in Kuwait there took place General Assembly of the Asian Olympic Council. Under the decision of the Executive Committee of the Asian Olympic Council Gafur Rakhimov, Vice-President of the AOC, was awarded Order of the Asian Olympic Council.

2005 year, February
At the ÕII Current Selection General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Uzbekistan G.A. Rakhimov was re-elected Vice-President of the NOC.

2006 year, November
Elected First Vice-President of the AIBA at the XVI AIBA Congress in Santo-Domingo (Dominican Republic).

2007 year, February
Elected President of the Asian Boxing Association at the Congress of the Asian Boxing Association in Taiwan (Chinese Taipei).

It is not enough to train Olympic champions, the main thing is to prepare worthy followers for them and this claims for the popularisation of the idea to do sports actively among children and teenagers, to promote raising in them the necessity to strengthen their physical and moral health as well as the comprehension of a healthy life as the most important human value.











 

     In the life of Gafur Rakhimov sport has always played a key role. Sport is the life style and the image of life which polishes man's personality and destiny. In his youth G.A. Rakhimov seriously did sports being fond of boxing. He also plays football and tennis well. Stating that sport plays a primary role in forming a sound and accomplished society G. Rakhimov proves this with his deeds. He provides sponsorship for the participation of Uzbek sportsmen in large-scale international tournaments and does tremendously much for promoting Olympic movement both in Asia and worldwide.

     G. Rakhimov plays significant role in the international sports movement being Vice-President of the Asian Olympic Council from Central Asian region (AOC), Vice-President of the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA), Chairman of the AIBA Business Commission, Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan.

     Following the decision of the Executive Committee of the General Assembly of the Asian Olympic Council in January 2003 G. Rakhimov was awarded Order of the Asian Olympic Council "For Great Contribution to the Promotion of Olympic Movement". This award serves as recognition of the contribution of this well-known man of sports. Due to his efforts within a short period of time Uzbekistan got world class sportsmen in tennis, boxing, wrestling, judo. The patronage of G. A. Rakhimov is extended to other countries of Central Asia as well: he contributes to the development of boxing in the region. Being Vice-President of the AIBA he continuously promotes development of the sports mentioned, assists in finding and training young talented people. The example of this is the successful performance of boxers from Central Asia at the Olympic and Asian Games.

     Great attention G. Rakhimov pays to the programmes oriented at the professional training of a growing generation because children are able to become future champions if they have the opportunity to do sports fully and professionally. Under the initiative of G. Rakhimov in August 2004 there was established "Mehrjon-Sport" Republican Charitable Fund. The establishers of the Fund include well-known sportsmen, world and olympic champions. The main objective of the Fund is to support talented children in the field of sports and firstly those from children's homes, boarding-schools and needy families. The Fund creates equal conditions and opportunities compared to those of well-off children for doing sports regularly, gives them the chance to participate in international tournaments. It popularises the idea of doing sports actively among children and teenagers, tries to involve in this social field organisational efforts and financial assets of various public, commercial institutions and associations, outstanding political figures, sportsmen, people of art and businessmen.

     The Fund has developed and is implementing such target programmes as "Olympic Hope", "Health of the Nation", "Harmonious Personality", "International Cooperation". In the framework of the latter on June 23-30, 2005 in the city of Satka (Chelyabinsk region) there were held International Children Sports Games. The participation involved inmates of children's homes and children from socially unfavourable families from Chelyabinsk region and Tashkent. The Games were initiated and organised by the Republican Charitable Fund «Mehrjon-Sport» (Uzbekistan) in cooperation with «ITF Group Holding» (Russia).
